I'm usually hesitant to listen to an audio book since the reader's voice can take away from the story if the voice doesn't catch you just right.
However, I am glad I picked this audio book.
The reader's voice captures the story well. He pitches the voices just right for each character and you know which character is speaking.
The Shack is about Mac's journey as he deals with his daughter's abduction and death. One day he gets a letter inviting him to the shack where they found his daughter's bloody dress. When he goes there he at first sees the rundown shack and something in him snaps as he goes inside and sees the stain left from the blood. Then the shack is transformed. He is taken on a spiritual journey as well as a healing journey when he encounters God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
A very powerful story. The beginning had me sniffling as Mac dealt with the abduction, search and death of his daughter. I chuckled at moments of interaction between him and God who can be both sassy and understanding.
I'd recommend, both the book and audio.
